Talking

I have had a great experience at our art space, Create PC, and have so appreciated the opportunity to be there. One of the things that I have learned to love, and learned that I need to work on, is how to talk about my art to people. At Create PC, people wander through steadily while I'm working and I love to talk to them, and every once in a while I will get someone who clearly has a good understanding about art, composition, style, etc. They will ask about my work and I have discovered that I'm not always sure what to say - for me, I dont think that much about it intellectually, I just paint what I love. So, I have had to stop and really think about what I'm doing, and why, and think about how I can articulate that to others. The houseplants I'm painting are a good example. A woman came in yesterday and asked about the circles that I paint on the plants. Hmmm... why do I do that? Well, I am thinking about a retro abstraction of house plants, and the circles, to me, add a bit of whimsy in the hopes that people dont take the paintings too seriously. The paintings are intended to evoke a sense of creative space with an emotional response resulting from the boldness of color. I love the simplicity of a retro vibe but with a modern twist. Well, there you go! That is why I am painting these plants, and why I do it in this way. Let's talk!
