What to Do? What to Do?
Updated: Jun 22, 2019
My normal M.O. is to just pick up a paint brush and start painting - what moves me today? When I have a specific show to work for, I work toward it, almost frenetically until I have enough work to satisfy the circumstance. What to do when there is no specified motivation? What to do when you dont have a predetermined goal?
I want to do an exhibit at a local art gallery in SLC. The predicament is that I cannot submit my National Parks Collection because it's been shown elsewhere already (unfortunate). This means that I have to come up with a theme, or idea, for a whole new collection. The other issue is that galleries want a cohesive, thematic body of work - something that I am not very good at; I'm too varied in my pieces - this is evident in my Parks Collection, the pieces have similar facets, but are quite different.
This leaves me with the wide open prospect of figuring out what to do. I need a theme, I need a cohesive body of work, and I need to maintain a particular style of painting throughout the collection. I have a couple of ideas running around my head, but am having a hard time committing to either one. I'm stuck. What to do, what to do?
